Carrollton Wind Symphony

Collective Commitments & Membership Expectations

Why We Exist

The Carrollton Wind Symphony exists to enrich the cultural life, vitality, and artistic landscape of the City of Carrollton, its surrounding communities, and the state of Texas. As members, we share a passion for wind band music and a dedication to serving our community by delivering inspiring, high-quality public performances and expanding musical access for musicians and audiences alike.

To accomplish these goals, adherence to the guidelines in the subsequent sections is imperative. Thank you in advance for prioritizing these items as a member of the organization.

How We Make Music Together

Through excellence in personal preparation, consistent participation, and a spirit of collaboration, we seek to fulfill CWS’s vision of civic and cultural advocacy. Our unity of purpose and shared artistic goals allow us to present engaging, challenging repertoire that lifts our community and upholds the highest standards of the musical arts.

What This Looks Like: Core Action Areas

  1. Artistic & Performance Excellence

    • Commitment to Quality: I recognize the level of musical excellence required to present compelling concert programs, and I am committed to upholding these standards in all of my musical contributions.

    • Personal Preparation: I will demonstrate consistency and diligence in private practice between rehearsals so that I arrive fully prepared, maintaining and growing my musical skills for the benefit of the entire ensemble.

  2. Respect for Time & Professionalism

    • Punctuality: I will arrive early to scheduled rehearsals and performances to set up, warm up, and tune before the downbeat.

    • Seamless Logistics: It is imperative that I check in at rehearsals (e.g., scanning the attendance QR code) to ensure accurate ensemble records and support administrative staff.

  3. Attendance & Communication Policy

    • Advance Notice: I understand that consistent ensemble attendance is essential to achieving our musical potential. If I must miss a rehearsal, I will notify the Artistic Director and section leader at least one week in advance, reserving last-minute notifications strictly for emergencies (e.g., sudden illness or family/work conflicts).

    • Concert Eligibility: If I anticipate missing one-third (1/3) or more of the rehearsal set for a given concert cycle, I will consult with the Artistic Director to determine my participation status for that performance.

    • Unexcused Absences: I recognize that failing to send notification for two consecutive rehearsals could be interpreted as a resignation from the ensemble.

    • Status Changes: If personal or professional circumstances require me to take a leave of absence or step away from the ensemble, I will communicate this directly to the Artistic Director.

  4. Community, Culture, & Camaraderie

    • Positive Collaboration: I will foster a supportive, respectful, and team-focused environment, taking pride in collaborating with fellow musicians and supporting the artistic and behind-the-scenes leaders who make our ensemble possible.

    • Public Advocacy: I will serve as an ambassador for the Carrollton Wind Symphony, championing our community's cultural and economic vitality through active engagement and public advocacy.

Member Affirmation

In all and through all, I commit my time, talents, and energy to the Carrollton Wind Symphony. I recognize that my individual dedication directly impacts the free flow of artistic expression and unity within our ensemble.
